Willie Nelson wrote a song “I’m My Own Grandpa" about some unusual relationships.
Ezekial French was the father-in-law of his own son and the stepfather of his daughter-in-law.
Ezekial came from a line of Methodist ministers. His mother Hannah was the daughter of John Winans Clark. Her uncle David Clark and her brother-in-law Richard Clark were early Methodist Ministers. Her cousin Dr. John Clark was instrumental in the founding of of the Mt. Pulaski Methodist Church. Hannah and Asa French provided the land for what became French’s Chapel in rural Logan County. (Full disclosure: I am a direct descendant of John Winans, David and Richard Clark.)
Ezekial married Caroline Alexander. They had three daughters and three sons who survived to adulthood. One son was Daniel Henry French who married Ammy Hickman.
Caroline died November 7, 1908. On April 3, 1912, Ezekial married the widowed Emma Jane Barnhart Hickman -- the mother of his daughter-in-law Ammy Hickman French. By marriage he became the father-in-law of his son Daniel Henry and the stepfather of his daughter-in-law Ammy. (Yes, it is Ammy.)
Not his own grandpa but unusual.
